The Andaman and Nicobar administration has taken a series of initiatives to prevent the entry of Swine Influenza Virus (SIV) in the Islands. The local administration has urged the people of these far-flung islands to exercise caution in the wake of the outbreak of swine-flu in some parts of the world. ”The Health Services Department of Andaman (HSDA) has confirmed that no cases of swine flu have been reported in the Islands. There is absolutely no reason to panic,” HSDA Director Dr N Sadasivan told UNI today. ”Four teams of doctors and paramedical staff have been deployed in the jetties and airport in Port Blair to check the entry of this disease. Besides, a special order has also been issued to all the heathcare units and tourist destinations like Havelock and Neil Island for an active surveillance,” Dr Sadasivan added. Meanwhile, the HDSA has requested the islanders to cooperate with the health department in this reagard. The hoteliers had also been requested to monitor foreign nationals and report to health authorities, if they observe any symptom or signs of this disease, he added. The SIV was transmitted through the air from one individual to another, sources said adding the discease was not spread by pigs. The swine flu has hit Mexico and the United States and the outbreak of the disease was also reported in 19 countries. The symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting and difficulty in breathing. Related posts:
